Here are some of this weekend’s notable releases:

Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Saga “Neptune Blue” – Friday, August 3rd

Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Saga "Neptune Blue"

Tomorrow, Friday, August 3rd, marks the release of the “Neptune Blue” Gel Saga, Ronnie Fieg’s latest sneaker design (and the recent hot topic on Sole Camp). The shoe will hit shores at Kith’s two retail stores in Manhattan (644 Broadway) and Brooklyn (233 Flatbush Ave), as well as KithNYC.com, at 11 AM. You can buy the sneaker individually for $145, or in a bundle, available in-store only, with a Quintin x Kith 5-panel hat and Kith “Neptune Blue” duffel bag for $225. Anyone who wants to snag a pair of the oceanic sneakers can start waiting it out at either Kith location at 7 PM tonight, or just try online tomorrow morning.

EDIT: According to a tweet that Kith just put out, you will only be able to buy the $225 bundle if you buy the sneakers from either roy the Kith retail locations. If you want the sneakers separately, you will have to test your luck on the Kith website.

Air Jordan IV Retro White/Varsity Red-Black – Saturday, August 4th

Air Jordan IV Retro White-Varsity Red-Black

The latest Air Jordan Retro to hit stores will be the White/Varisty Red-Black Air Jordan IV. Even though the shade of red used on it is not the same as on the OG pair (“Fire Red”), it should still be a pretty hot commodity for Jordan fans across the globe. You can get this shoe at your local Jordan Brand retailer this Saturday, August 4th, or $160. If you want a more detailed look at this shoe, stay tuned…

Concepts x New Balance 999 “SEAL”

Concepts x New Balance 999 "SEAL"

The last release for this weekend is yet another killer: Boston sneaker haven Concepts‘ latest collab with New Balance, the SEAL 999. Based on the footwear of the US Navy Sea, Air, and Land teams, the shoe mixes comfort, wearability, and quality all in one subtle design. You can purchase the SEAL 999 (and its accompanying Arcteryx SEAL jacket) on Saturday, August 4th at Concepts (37 Brattle St, Cambridge, MA) in-store at 10 AM or on shop.cncpts.com at 12 PM. If you plan on getting the shoes in-store, get there early! If not, good luck!

Concepts x New Balance 999 “SEAL”

Concepts x New Balance 999 "SEAL"

Concepts x New Balance 999 "SEAL"

If you know where to look, you might have seen pictures of this sneaker already. Out of respect for the guys at Concepts (and a love for the sneaker), I decided to keep it under wraps until the crew there dropped their own pictures. After a year of waiting, we all can see Concepts’s follow-up to the “Kennedy” 999. This one also has a patriotic theme, but in a different light. The “SEAL” New Balance 999 pays tribute to the US Navy Sea, Air, and Land teams, and more specifically, to their footwear: New Balance’s high-performance water boot, the OTB Abyss II. The non-typical materials used on this 999, like ballistic mesh, stain-resistant microfiber suede, and ultra-breathable nylon, come directly from the Abyss II. Add on the morse code branding on the tongue, military font “999″ on the heel, and the topographic inner lining and insole, and you can definitely see the US Navy influence. And that’s not to say that the shoe isn’t aesthetically appealing, as the different shades of blue combined with tan and grey say otherwise. If you like this sneaker as much as I do, you’ll be sure to either be at Concepts in Cambridge, MA or glued to your computer when this drop happens on this upcoming Saturday, August 4. The “SEAL” Concepts x New Balance 999, will be released in-store at Concepts at 10 am, and subsequently on their web store at 12 pm. Check the Concepts website for more information on the sneaker, and hit the jump for a few additional pictures.  (more…)

Tomorrow’s the day. After almost two months of anticipation and a one-week delay, Ronnie Fieg’s latest sneaker design, the “Steel Blue” New Balance 999, is almost upon us. The shoe, which has a colorway that is inspired by the “Steel Blue” 1300CL, uses lush charcoal grey and steel blue suedes and rich off-white leather in a way that has captivated the interest of many people across the world. The sneaker will release at Kith Manhattan, Kith Brooklyn and KithNYC.com tomorrow morning at 11 AM EST (along with matching crewnecks and sweatpants), and hit other select New Balance retailers (such as Concepts & West NYC) next Saturday, June 30th. Wristbands for the 100 wooden box sets (which also include a “Steel Blue” sweatshirt and sweatshorts) have already been distributed at the two Kith locations, and all tickets for pairs at the Manhattan location have been given out, but if you can make it over to Kith Brooklyn before they close at 8 tonight, they still have some tickets for pairs of the “Steel Blue” 999s. Otherwise, if you can’t get over there, you can try your luck online tomorrow morning at 11 or at other retailers on the 30th.

P.S.: Jake will be at the Kith Manhattan release tomorrow morning filming for Sole Camp! We encourage you to say hello if you see him.

Ronnie Fieg x New Balance 999 “Steel Blue” New Release Date

Ronnie Fieg x New Balance 999 "Steel Blue"

Ronnie Fieg x New Balance 999 "Steel Blue"

Had things remained the way they were from the get-go, I would be bringing you all a release recap of the “Steel Blue” New Balance 999 release from Kith NYC. However, the Kithset collective had to push back the release of the sneaker from Ronnie Fieg’s birthday (Wish the man a happy birthday if you haven’t yet!) to a later date. But do not fret, as that date is not as “later” as it could have been. If you weren’t one of the lucky ones to catch the #KithStrike online release today, then make sure to have your plans set – whether for the online drop or in-store drop – for next Friday, June 22.

Post-Hiatus Update – 6/11/12

Before Dylan and I left for our three-week trip to Israel, I sent out a preview of things to come in the time while we were away. Alas, I had no idea of exactly how crazy of a period this past three weeks was going to be. The answer: very, very crazy. Check out a few of the headlines I missed in my preview below.

Nike LeBron 9 “MVP”

Nike LeBron 9 "MVP"

Nike LeBron 9 "MVP"

After the first half of this year’s NBA season, there was no question that LeBron James was putting up historic numbers for his Miami Heat squad. The second half of the season showed a little dip in his production, but nonetheless, in mid-May, LeBron was named Most Valuable Player of the 2011-2012 season. To celebrate the occasion, Nike created an “MVP” version of the LeBron 9. The sneaker has an upper covered in white, but also taken up by a red-and-black fade pattern. Yellow accents appear on the logos and outsole. More pizzaz comes through with red and yellow speckles on a white midsole. Last, but certainly not least, LeBron’s signature on the back of the LeBron 9 is replaced with a yellow “MVP” badge. No word yet on a release date, but keep your Eastern Conference Finals Game 6 demon eyes peeled. (Picture via Nike Inc.)

Nike Zoom Kobe VII “What the Kobe”

Nike Zoom Kobe VII "What the Kobe"

Nike Zoom Kobe VII "What the Kobe"

Nike SB dropped the “What the Dunk” Dunk Low in October 2007. Since then, there have been custom “What the Dunk” Dunk Highs and even a “What the Jordan” Air Jordan 1, but I am pretty sure Nike was the first to come up with a “What the Kobe” concept. The result? Look right above. Can’t miss it. This obscene version of the Zoom Kobe VII takes radiant colors and animal prints found on previous Kobe colorways and meshes them all together into one pair of sneakers. Wild, right? No release date is known on this super-eccentric Kobe VII, but stay tuned for one hopefully in the near future. (Picture via Sneaker Freaker)

Jeremy Scott x adidas Originals Fall/Winter 2012 Preview

Soon enough, six months will have passed since the first drop from Jeremy Scott’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection, and you know what that means: more zany-to-infinity Jeremy Scott x adidas Originals sneakers to feast your eyes on. Sneaker Freaker has a preview of the first set of clothing and sneakers being released, which includes the psychedelic JS Bear pictured above. The first set of three sneakers, along with the matching clothing, is set to drop on or around Sunday, August 12.

Nike Air Foamposite Pro “Gym Green”

Foamposite mania hits again. The “Gym Green” Foamposite Pro above is dressed in an iridescent green that is lighter, but still similar to the “Dark Pine” Foamposite Pro’s upper from last year. Gym Green accents can be found on the lateral swoosh and outsole swoosh. A translucent outsole makes sure that this Foamposite is a winner for the Olympic season. Pick up your pair on Saturday, June 30. (Picture via Private Stock)

Ronnie Fieg x New Balance 999 Release Date Change

Ronnie Fieg x New Balance 999 "Steel Blue"

For the most part, these past three weeks have been quiet for news on upcoming Ronnie Fieg sneaker releases. No previews of future Asics collaborations have surfaced, but one tidbit of information on his latest New Balance project came out. The release of the “Steel Blue” New Balance 999, initially slated for Fieg’s birthday of June 15, has been moved to an undisclosed date. The information should not be too far away, but perhaps you will have to wait a little longer than you thought. For now, enjoy a gallery of pictures of the “Steel Blue” 999 courtesy of Sneaker News.

Nike Sportswear “Safari” Pack

Nike Sportswear "Safari" Pack – Air Safari & Air Trainer 1

Nike Sportswear "Safari" Pack – Air Safari & Air Trainer 1

Twenty-five years ago, Nike went a little over the aesthetic edge with the Nike Air Safari – a sneaker built like a classic Nike runner, but with a loud pop thanks to the Safari print. Now, Nike will pay tribute to the Air Safari with a two-sneaker pack. First, the Air Safari will re-release in its original form. In addition, the Air Trainer 1 will get dressed up in the original Air Safari colorway for the occasion. Look for both to drop at select Nike Sportswear retailers on Saturday, June 30. Ever since the NBA 2012 All-Star Game, many people have been curious about the release status of this player exclusive Hyperdunk 2011 Supreme. Fortunately for those people, this “Galaxy” Blake Griffin PE Hyperdunk finally has a release date. Look for the sneaker to drop in limited amounts at select Nike Basketball retailers on Saturday, June 23. For now, if you have the dough, you can go to eBay to get yourself a pair now.

Released: Nike SB Zoom Stefan Janoski “Vino Rosso”

Nike SB Zoom Stefan Janoski "Vino Rosso"

Nike SB Zoom Stefan Janoski "Vino Rosso"

Over the three weeks of our hiatus, there were a few notable drops, including this blast-from-the-past Nike SB quickstrike. For months on end, the “Vino Rosso” Janoski seemed like one of those shoes that had pairs floating around, but would never see a wide-scale release. That is, until this past Saturday, June 9. The “Vino Rosso” Janoski dropped at Nike SB locations across the nation as a regular quickstrike. If you put in effort, you should still be able to find a pair for retail or just a little above. Released: Air Jordan 1 Retro KO Hi “Bred” & “Black Toe”

Air Jordan 1 Retro KO Hi "Bred" & "Black Toe"

Air Jordan 1 Retro KO Hi "Bred" & "Black Toe"

Talk about a blast from the past! Two Saturdays ago, June 2, marked the completely unexpected return of a gem for Jordan connoisseurs – the “Bred” Air Jordan 1 KO. This colorway of the Air Jordan 1 KO hasn’t seen store shelves since…well, the original drop! Along with the “Bred” colorup, Jordan Brand also dropped a reiteration of the classic “Black Toe” Jordan 1, but in KO form. The “Bred” version is pretty much gone, but you should still be able to find the “Black Toe” KOs around. (Picture via Extra Butter)

Released: Nike Air Yeezy 2 Black/Solar Red & Wolf Grey/Pure Platinum

Nike Air Yeezy 2 Wolf Grey/Pure Platinum

Nike Air Yeezy 2 Wolf Grey/Pure Platinum

Didn’t I tell you this might be coming? Well, I hoped it wouldn’t, just so I could be in the States to witness what could have been the craziest sneaker drop ever. Turns out the release was a day before I got back – Saturday, June 9. And yes, it was one of the most insane drops the sneakerhead community has ever seen. For one, there was a regional split for each colorway; stores in the West received the Wolf Grey/Pure Platinum version, stores in the East received the Black/Solar Red version, and select shops in Chicago and New York City received both. After February’s “Galaxy” Foamposite release hoopla, most stores learned their lesson, and held huge raffles instead of allowing lines to form. This was the first time raffles became so commonplace among sneaker shops. Thousands upon thousands of people across the nation put their names down for a chance at Yeezy 2s, with only a small percentage actually getting a chance to purchase pairs. Even the few House of Hoops locations that received Yeezy 2s held online raffles. Nike-owned stores stuck to the RSVP method, which, while efficient, upset a lot of people who believed that they responded quick enough to their respective store’s tweet. NikeStore even opted to release the sneaker online at a random date and time. And worst of all, while the sneaker retailed for $245, it is being sold on eBay at prices in the $2000 to $4000 range. If you won a raffle and were able to pick up a pair, congratulations. Otherwise, you might want to wait for the market price of the sneaker in either colorway to drop. (Picture via Nike Inc.)

Sneaker Con NYC June 2012

Sneaker Con NYC June 2012

Sneaker Con NYC June 2012

Did you miss out on any of the sneakers that dropped in the past three weeks, and don’t feel like buying them online? In a matter of weeks, you’ll have a great opportunity to see all sorts of sneakers in person at New York City’s first Sneaker Con in 2012. This time around, the event looks to be bigger than ever, thanks to the new 10,000 square-foot venue, Baruch College. Nearly 100 vendors will be at the event, catering to an expected thousands of event-goers. If there are any sneakers that you are looking to buy, sell, or trade, Sneaker Con is the place to be when it all goes down on Saturday, June 30 in New York City.

Ronnie Fieg/Kith x New Balance 999 “Steel Blue” Detailed Look & Release Date

Ronnie Fieg/Kith x New Balance 999 "Steel Blue"

Ronnie Fieg/Kith x New Balance 999 "Steel Blue"

Over the late eighties and early nineties, New Balance released the later models in the 99 series. 1986 marked the debut of the New Balance 995, and ten years later, the New Balance 999 was released to the public. With a 3D mid foot and ABZORB cushioning technology, this New Balance model was one of the most forward-thinking running silhouettes available when it released. Not to mention it was also very well-received in the long run. A few years after its American release, the sneaker developed a cult following in Asia, which came back to this country after some time. Now, in 2012, the sneaker serves as a global ambassador. This “Steel Blue” New Balance 999 collaboration will mark the beginning of Kith’s venture into the global sneaker market. How exactly? We’ll have to wait and see. Until then, read the Sneaker Freaker article on this new-age runner and mark down Friday, June 15 as the “Steel Blue” 999′s release date.

Kith/Ronnie Fieg x New Balance 999 "Steel Blue"

Kith/Ronnie Fieg x New Balance 999 "Steel Blue"

It’s no secret that the “Steel Blue” New Balance 1300 Classic is one of Kith owner and footwear designer Ronnie Fieg’s favorite sneakers ever. With the shoe’s comfort, premium materials, and simple color-blocking, it is a bonafide classic. So how could you imagine someone who loves the “Steel Blue” 1300 so much taking it one step further? By designing a sneaker solely based on that shoe! In the upcoming Issue #24 of Sneaker Freaker, we get a preview of Kith/Ronnie Fieg’s (we normally say “Ronnie Fieg x” but the magazine says “Kith x,” so I don’t know what to call it) upcoming “Steel Blue” New Balance 999 that takes the 1300 colorway to a new level. One noticeable feature (an upgrade of sorts) on the 999 compared to the 1300 is the use of a lush Steel Blue suede on the toebox and heel instead of mesh. I am sure that there are more differences between the two colorways that we will be able to see when official detailed photos of the shoe, that you have to stay tuned to Sole Camp to see, are released. In the meanwhile, check out the beginning of the “Kith x NB999 Steel Blue” article below (via yoitsmafia). (more…)

Dylan’s Top 10 Sneakers of 2011

Tonight, I am here to bring you all my Top 10 sneakers of the year. I have put a lot of thought into this list, so I hope you all like it!

10. Tie – Nike Dunk High “Mighty Crown”, Nike LeBron 8 V2 Low “Solar Red” & Nike Air Foamposite One “Royal”

Nike Dunk High "Mighty Crown", Nike LeBron 8 V2 Low "Solar Red" & Nike Air Foamposite One "Royal"

Nike Dunk High "Mighty Crown", Nike LeBron 8 V2 Low "Solar Red" & Nike Air Foamposite One "Royal"

I couldn’t decide on one shoe for this spot, as I thought that all of these deserved it. The “Mighty Crown” Dunk High is a subtle, yet nice shoe, because of its intricate design and high quality. The “Solar Red” LeBron 8 V2 Low is both more flashy and comfortable than the Dunk, but it’s also more one-dimensional. Also, the “Royal” Foamposite One is a classic colorway that looks stunning, even in its 2011 form, but I’ve started to like the Foamposite model less over this year. Consider these my runner-ups, and the Top 9 my real list (All pictures via Nice Kicks).

9. Nike SB Dunk High “Statue of Liberty”

Nike SB Dunk High "Statue of Liberty"

Nike SB Dunk High "Statue of Liberty"

At first, I thought that the “Statue of Liberty” SB Dunk High was cool, but not worth the effort or money. However, after a friend of mine got a pair and I saw him wear his pair a lot, I was sold. The shoe’s shades of green, mint, and off-white fit perfectly together. And its nod to one of NYC’s greatest monuments, the Statue of Liberty of course, is pretty cool too. While I think the quality of the leather used on the shoe could have been better, I can’t deny that the “Statue of Liberty” SB Dunk High is a winner.

8. Air Jordan I Retro “Banned”

Air Jordan I Retro "Banned"

Air Jordan I Retro "Banned"

While I passed on the “Banned” Air Jordan I when it came out because I already had a black and red shoe in the “DJ AM” Dunk High, I really regret that decision now. The “Banned” I is an absolutely classic sneaker. The combination of black and red is amazing to me, and that duo is executed beautifully on this shoe. In addition, the ode to when the “Bred” I was originally banned from the NBA in 1985, with the notes on the lining and box, is pretty special. I could easily buy a pair of “Bred” I’s from the DMP Pack, but that Nike Air on the tongue tab of the “Banned” I just looks right.

7. Nike Zoom Kobe VI “Barcelona Away”

Nike Zoom Kobe VI "Barcelona"

Nike Zoom Kobe VI "Barcelona"

I picked the “Barcelona Away” Kobe VI because of its flash. I’ve only seen the shoe once in real life, but when I did, my eyes were immediately drawn to and stuck on it. And while there were some other notable mango-like-colored sneakers in 2011, the “Barcelona Away” Kobe VI takes the cake for the best because of how perfectly the black used on the shoe’s midsole and lining contrasts the mango shade. Boy do I wish that this shoe released in the US…

6. Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Saga “Mazarine Blue”

Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Saga "Mazarine Blue"

Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Saga "Mazarine Blue"

Since I first saw the “Mazarine Blue” Gel Saga at the end in Adam Zenou’s Kith Opening Party video, I’ve been hooked. I love that shade of purplish-blue, kind of like daybreak, used on the shoe. Paired with a black midsole and blue accents, the all-mazarine upper on the “Mazarine Blue” Gel Saga makes the shoe looks ill-er than anything else I’ve seen this year.

5. Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Lyte III “Mint Leaf”

Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Lyte III "Mint Leaf"

Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Lyte III "Mint Leaf"

The “Mint Leaf” Gel Lyte III is truly stunning. Its mint mesh split-tongue and toe box shine radiantly when hit by light. The mint high-grade nubuck on the shoe also looks very clean. Not to mention that the Gel Lyte III silhouette is very comfortable and has become one of my favorites. I even like the story behind this beautiful colorway, that Ronnie Fieg based it off of mint leaves from his grandmother’s garden in Israel. When I first saw people wear the “Mint Leaf” Gel Lyte III at the release at David Z, I was not 100% sold. But, after I missed out there and thought about the shoe a little more, I knew that I could not totally miss out on it.

4. Concepts x New Balance 999 “Kennedy”

Concepts x New Balance 999 "Kennedy"

Concepts x New Balance 999 "Kennedy"

As I alluded to in the Sole Camp x Young Guns “Kennedy” post, I’ve never really been a fan of New Balances. That is, until I fell in love with the “Kennedy” 999. When the shoe released back in April, I totally slept on it. However, when I saw someone wearing them at the “Mint Leaf” release in July, I started to regret not paying to attention to them before. Frank the Butcher executed the theme of JFK’s love for sailing perfectly on the “Kennedy”, through ripstop nylon (used in yacht sails), sand-colored suede, very nautical lining, and white mesh on the toe (as a reference to the bags used to catch fish). Heck, the sneaker even came with a white mesh bag! The “Kennedy” also is up a notch in my mind because of the lush suedes used on it and how comfortable the 999 model itself is. I still can’t believe that I’m putting a New Balance shoe on the top half of my list, but boy, does the “Kennedy” 999 deserve it!

3. Air Jordan XI Retro “Concord”

Air Jordan XI Retro "Concord"

Air Jordan XI Retro "Concord"

I’ve been waiting for the “Concord” XI to re-release since I started learning about Jordans. The shoe’s combination of crisp white mesh and shiny black patent has always caught my attention. However, I could not convince myself to buy a previously-released pair, with a yellowed sole that I did not make yellow (from wear and time). So, I forced myself to wait. And now, after waiting 2+ years and going out early on the morning of 12/23/11, I finally have the “Concord” XI!

2. adidas Originals JS Bear

adidas Originals JS Bear

adidas Originals JS Bear

The JS Bear, especially in the tan colorway, is nothing short of awesome. I kind-of wanted the shoe after seeing some pictures of it online, but when I had the chance to see it in real life, I was sold. The teddy bear head and light fur upper on the JS Bear make the shoe look so cute and me feel like a kid again when I wear it. I also love how the head and arms shake when I walk in the shoe, as if my shoes were living creatures. Overall, Jeremy Scott’s animal-sneaker designs are amazing, but none of them stick out at me like the tan JS Bear does.

1. Nike MAG 2011

Nike MAG 2011

Nike MAG 2011

To be honest, I have never seen Back to the Future 2. Regardless, I think the Nike MAG 2011 is the best sneaker that was released in 2011. I have always been a fan of futuristic-looking models (the Yeezy is my favorite shoe ever), and the MAG takes that to a whole new level. The really high cut, teal-speckled panels, and lights all work really well together in my opinion. Like many of you (I’m sure), I wish I could’ve obtained a pair!

That’s all folks! I would love to know what you all have to say about my list. What did you not expect that ended up on my list, and vice versa?
